Pre-Event Session with Students and Youth

As part of the series of pre-events leading up to the 7th Karachi International Water Conference (KIWC) 2025, a youth-focused session was held on September 16, 2025, at the Panjwani–Hisaar Water Institute (PHWI), NED University. The purpose of this session was to engage young people in creating awareness and to highlight youth-led action and their vital role in driving climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.

The event began with an introduction to PHWI and the 7th KIWC 2025 by Mr. Haris Akram Bhatti. This was followed by the screening of a thought-provoking documentary encouraging participants to reflect on the people they are trying to help through climate and water-related initiatives.

Dr. Areba Syed, Assistant Professor at PHWI, delivered a presentation on Water for People – Why It Matters. She emphasized that water for people goes beyond simply building wells; it requires a holistic approach that integrates engineering, health, economics, governance, and community engagement.

Another documentary was shown to illustrate how wastewater from factories contaminates the water piped into households. The film highlighted the severe health implications of this pollution, including high child mortality rates and a growing public health crisis, exacerbated by rapid urban expansion and the rise of the fast-fashion industry.

The session concluded with an engaging questions-and-answers segment, where students shared their thoughts, raised queries, and reflected on the role of youth in building a more sustainable and resilient future.
